I know this is a longshot...
But would anyone want to have a meetup in a few weeks and catch a game or something? We could meet up at World of Beer. More beers than you can think of and pretty good food. I know we're all pretty fucking meh about the tourney but I'm just looking to put more faces with names. We have a few new members or returning members and there are still a few old school guys I've never met like J. There are some regional games on 3/26 (Saturday) and 3/27 (Sunday). I'm guiding a youth turkey hunt on April 2nd and 3rd so I wouldn't be able to make the final four games but the title game is on 4/4. I don't know if you guys would be able to make a weeknight game or if that would be more difficult.

As a side note, regardless of what you think of me...I'm actually a pretty nice guy. Junk is a cool dude from when I met him. Chris is a cool guy and fun to watch a game with too. I've watched two games with harv and attended one with him as well and he's a cool dude also...

Damn. We can always work around scheduling if you all interested. Watching the warriors in the playoffs or something.

I haven't met anyone here. Tried in Indy several years ago but that didn't work out. My downtime is pretty well mapped out.

I figured you'd be in CAD. We'll see if you can't work us into your schedule one evening FD. Lol.

I wouldn't mind catching the IU/UK game and openly cheering for IU

Fuckin slapdicks. Calipari and the insufferable UK fans whining about their 4 seed. Hey fucksticks, maybe if your coach could actually coach you would be a higher seed. Has any coach done less with more?

Mark Gottfried has to be in the running for second at least.

I'm nowhere near as critical of Cal's coaching ability as I was in 2010. He's still a douchebag, but he's a pretty good motivator in March.

You can add Tom Crean to that list IMO.

Has the #1 NBA draft pick ever missed the NCAA tourney before, much less get beaten by 40 in the conference tournament? I'm really skeptical of Ben Simmons a.k.a. Michael Beasley 2.0. If I'm a GM, I'd probably take Ingram #1 depending how he plays when the lights come on in March (started off with a loss to ND). He has the slight frame, but he's the closest thing to Kevin Durant since Durant came out in 2007.

You guys will love this. In the past 15 years, only one other #1 prospect (not pick, but prospect) missed the NCAA Tourney.

Nerlens Noel.

Last player to be PICKED #1 (and never play in the NCAA Tournament) was Mychal Thompson... in 1978.

Michael Olowokandi missed the NCAA tournament in his final collegiate season (1998), but had been to the tourney during his collegiate career.

Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself before laughing, that Ben Simmons is an 18 year old kid. He looks and plays like a grown ass man, but I can't imagine what that kind of pressure feels like with an 18 year old brain. I don't want to see him fail, it's actually the exact opposite. I would love to see him realize his full potential. He's just lacking that elite competitiveness that turns talented players into winners.

RE: I know this is a longshot...
He did himself NO favors by going to a sorry program with a sorry coach. At least at UK, the NBA talents can push one another even if their coach isn't doing much to refine their skills. Simmons going to LSU is a continuation of the HS team situation for some freak athlete in Podunk County, USA. He's light years ahead of anyone else on his team and plays against other sorry competition in the SEC. Occasionally he'll see a talented opponent/squad where it becomes Simmons v. the UK Starting 5.

I say all of this with complete acknowledgment of my past comments on all-star squads (like UK for the past 8 years and LeBron/Wade/Bosh) being losers unwilling to be the alpha dogs on their own and not go full-on Justice League/X-Men the way they team up. But there is a middle ground where you can reject the super-team formation and still find a place with above average supporting talent/competition. Simmons went COMPLETELY opposite by heading to LSU and calls into question his willingness to be challenged in practice the same way the super-teams call into question their willingness to compete with similarly-talented opponents.

I guess this means I should own up and revise my evaluation a bit. Up until this year I feel like this was the case. I will give him props though on the improvement his team has made since the start of the season.
