Music City Bowl/Texas A&M Game Thread
I'm gonna start this now as a way to talk Texas A&M and to also to discuss Nashville for those that are going to make the trip

I have yet to see a line on the game itself yet, but I would not be surprised if we came out as the early favorites

Here is what we know about the Aggies

Stats

http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/stats/_/id/245

Early reading material on the game

http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_...ity-bowl-3

Quote:Key player: Allen. This offense goes as the quarterback does and Allen is the (current) quarterback. It was an up-and-down season for the sophomore, who led the SEC in passing efficiency through five games but was hurt and had the two worst performances of his career as a follow-up. Allen was subsequently benched only to win the job back for the final two regular season games. He’s fourth in the SEC in passing touchdowns (17) and fifth in yards per attempt (7.81) but ninth in the league in Total QBR (62).

If you are heading to the game, this info from UofL should prove useful

Quote:Louisville will be the home team and has been assigned to the west side of the stadium. The allotments are in the following sections

130-131
136-143
229-231
237-240

UofL marching band section is 144

For a virtual seating chart, refer to the Tennessee Titans virtual venue site here

Interesting. The one preview article I read is picking us by a touchdown.

I am going to be curious to see how much that line moves, from what I have read much like what Chris read, we are coming in the hotter of the two teams. I did read that the Aggies have won 4 straight bowl games, so they have preformed well in those games. Granted in 3 of those games, they had that douchenoodle Manziel as their QB, but still they perform well

Common opponent between the two teams is Auburn

Louisville lost to Auburn in Atlanta 31-24

Texas A&M lost to them in College Station 26-10.

Take that for what its worth

Sagarin's algorithm is usually pretty close to the ones they use for the opening lines in Vegas. His ratings would also project A&M as the favorite, by 1.42 points.

I see that the 1.42 is from the home raitings column. So one would assume that is what the line would be if the game was played in College Station. I wonder how much of a flip that would be with the game being on a neutral field? I am going to go out on a limb her and guess that this would be more like a Louisville home game because this is gonna be such an easy trip for so many fans

Well looks like its just gonna be me then.

Here is a look at the past history between Louisville and Texas A&M from back in the 90s. I forgot we did a 2 for 1 back then in 92, 93, and 94. Currently trail in the all time series 3-0

No, it's just his Ratings column, which is the one you would use to calculate the spread for a neutral setting. To calculate home field edge/advantage, you would use the number in the bracket labeled "Home Advantage =[2.68]" by adding it to the home team's rating. Sagarin's home edge changes each week on a collective basis based on how home teams perform on average across college football, I presume. Obviously some teams have a larger home field advantage than others and I'm sure Vegas' algorithms compute that more accurately for individual lines. For example, Rice doesn't have nearly the same home edge as LSU but Sagarin doesn't account for that.

Just bought my dad a ticket and arranged for him to travel with fam down to the game; wish I could join 'em but already had plans that conflict with traveling up there. We'll actually be watching the game at home with two recent A&M grads, as luck would have it.

I have done some research on some of the A&M traditions so as to know what to expect. Talked with some friends who are A&M grads as well. I really want to dislike this team and their fans, but their niceness makes it hard to. Plus they have a dog for a mascot. Those that know me know I love dogs

I mean look at her, she's so fluffy!!!!

A cool thing someone told me is that her name is Reveille (or Miss Rev) she is assigned a handler that takes her everywhere he goes. Even to class and dates. As tradition states, if she is with the handler in class, and she barks, class has to be dismissed right then and there. The rationale behind this is that if the lecture is so boring that it causes Rev to bark, the students are probably not learning anything anyways

I mentioned when I started this thread that Kyle Allen would to be the key player for Texas A&M in this game

Well he looks like the starting QB for the Aggies will be transfering and will not play in the bowl game

http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...xas-aggies

Quote:With Allen departing, Murray is likely to start the Aggies' game against Louisville in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl on Dec. 30 in Nashville, Tennessee. This season Murray is 72-of-121 passing (59.5 percent) for 686 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions and has rushed for 335 yards and a touchdown.

This kid was apparently a highly ranked QB from the class of 2014. Reading up on the guy, he was the #1 Pro Style QB by rivals...take that for what its worth

I am actually hearing from a buddy of mine that works in player personnel that this may have been brewing for sometime now. Apparently they have been wanting to get snaps for Kyler Murray who Sumlin thinks is more of the mold of Manziel, just not as big of a douchenoodle. From what little I have seen on the guy, he is a duel threat QB, so there is that. Keep in mind the guy that will more than likely be starting against the Cards in Nashville is the 3rd string QB

In case you were curious, here are the stats on Murray

Isn't a dual threat QB what we supposedly have in Lamar Jackson? Admittedly his strengths are the opposite of the usual dual-threat QE in that, so far, his running is much better than his throwing. Rolleyes

Still, once he decides to go it is amazing to watch his skills in getting it done. Heart

Once his passing improves, we'll have the type of excellent QB we've become used to here at UofL Tongue

Can't wait for the bowl game where hopefully Petrino has some sneaky running plays ready for Lamar. Wink

RE: Music City Bowl/Texas A&M Game Thread
For a freshman QB I think mental capacity far outweighs his physical throwing ability. I haven't seen anything that would suggest LJ can't throw the football, or throw it relatively accurately. All I've seen is a QB that can't progress through his reads. Whether it's the bad offensive line or his own mental weakness, he rarely makes it past the first read before taking off downfield. That was Teddy's #1 asset in my book. Not his accuracy, footwork, or elusiveness, but his mental ability to make the right reads over and over and over again. In LJ's case, if he can get a better grasp of the mental aspect of being a QB, he could be a VERY good one for UofL who can throw it around or kill defenses for a poor pass blitz with his feet.
