NBA talk
I got a chance to watch the end of the Bulls/Cavs game, and the 1st quarter of the Warriors/Pelicans game last night. What a night and day difference between those 2 matchups. Bulls closed out the game with a lot of midrange iso in a grind-it-out-game, which doesn't really mesh with the article I just read. And the GS/NO game was free flowing with incredible ball movement and a blazing pace. The Warriors are just incredible to watch offensively, and Steph Curry ... Steph Curry. I don't know where to start with that guy. Has there ever been a more skilled player in the history of the NBA? He had 24 points on 12 shots ... in the 1st quarter. He ended up with 40 points and 7 helpers using 31 possessions. He and the Warriors are what the NBA needs if they want to get back to the glory days of the 90's. The Spurs are another major player, but they lack the sexiness that Golden State brings to the table.

I agree. You may not be inclined because of your prejudices but any basketball fan would enjoy watching the Warriors. Great team. Steph is just phenomenal.

I still like the spurs. They pay some good basketball. The team ball and shedding of miamis defense a couple years was a a sight to be seen

I don't like Curry...he is ruining the legacy of my favorite player of all time, Reggie Miller....but to be honest, Curry is the only reason I watched NBA last year....

Me too. The guy is straight up unconscious shooting the 3. All those step back threes and then he goes by guys if for no other reason the fact that defenders have to guard him so he doesn't drain it in their face. That and he is pretty crafty at getting to the basket when he wants to

I would bet against him being the MVP this season, for a few reasons, but still think he's been the best player the last 5 years as a whole.

Nope. I'm not saying he is, but I can't say that he isn't.

Question in the OP that hasn't got much attention ... is Steph Curry the most skilled player to ever play the game?

To clarify the essence of a subjective thing like "skill," you're asking if one strips away athleticism and physical characteristics like height/speed/strength, what player is the most skilled at basketball, right?

With the general emphasis on offensive skills when evaluating players, and those [offensive] skills being easier to quantify, we should probably divide this between skilled offensive player and skilled defensive player.

Yes and yes. Specifically offensive skill. I don't feel like skill is much of a factor on defense. It's all physical attributes, effort, and most importantly, what's between the ears.

Probably need a list of nominees and go from there. It's hard to separate skill from athleticism for some of the elite level players like LeBron, Jordan, Kobe, Hakeem, etc. Tempting to underrate their skill levels b/c they were so athletic. Same for guys who are tall like Hakeem/Wilt, big like Shaq or fast like AI.

Just running through candidates in my head, seems like mostly guards and ballhandlers come to mind, which might also be a bias. Especially PGs, who I would guess have the largest list of skills that are key to their position. For example, Tim Duncan is very skilled, but is not a great ballhandler which is a pretty important skill for basketball yet not essential to Duncan's game.

Maravich
Steph Curry
Bird
Kobe
Jordan
Chris Paul
LeBron
Jason Kidd
Steve Nash

thats a nice list. Magic immediately came to mind to. Post footwork, vision, and back to the basket game is huge. I'd have to have The Dream and Duncan somewhere in my top 10. Dirk is another. Durrant has to be up there somewhere.

Heat-Cavs and Warriors-Rockets tonight. Should be two good match ups. Will Trez stay 100% from the field? Maybe. Will Trez shut down Steph? Probably.

Harrell with 11 points on 5/5 shooting with 6 minutes left in the first half. 9/9 from the field in 2 games.

Harrell finishes 7/9 from the field and a team high 17 points with 3 boards despite playing 6th (tied) most minutes on his team. Second to only Steph in the game. Been a while since we've had a guy lead his team in scoring.

He looked good. Teams gotta learn you can't just let Harrell roam on the baseline. So about that T, why didn't Green get T'd up too for holding his leg in the first place and then shoving him off?

lol, which part do you disagree with? I actually watched most of the game, including his entire run in the 4th Quarter which turned into Summer Leaguey garbage time. Rockets were down by 20+ when he scored his last 5 or 7 points. He still obviously belongs evidenced by the first run against GSW's starters, but the sample size is still small is all I'm saying.

RE: NBA talk
Warriors just made history by becoming the first team ever to start the season 16-0
They have 2 30+ point victories. The rest of the NBA also has two
Their average margin of victory is +15.6 points
11 of their 16 wins have come by double digits
They have scored 100 points in 43 straight home games

If you ever even thought about watching the NBA, watch this Golden State team. You won't be dissappointed.
