Who else could be better? Johnson, Mahmoud and Spalding are reserves. Nanu is the only other big that gets big minutes especially early on.

The "by far" is what bothers me. Pitino is prone to hyperbole, so hopefully I can interpret his comment as "Mangok tries the hardest". He's barely even a basketball player. To think he's by far the best on the team at any position is just scary

70% motivational coach-speak, 30% praise-the-veteran rhetoric.

(Says the guy who drafted Nanu.)

I cant say why, but Nanu has shown up in the first round of a couple mock drafts.

SI guys project freshmen scoring: http://www.si.com/college-basketball/201...-brown-cal

Mitchell over Adel, influenced on their assumption Adel will split time with Lee. Would be surprised if Mitchell averaged more than 5 ppg.

Adel might end up the 2nd best player on this year's team. I was hoping that would be Nanu

RE: Preseason News thread
I'm prepared for just about anything in basketball this season. The whole program is in disarray between the Powell situation, player turnover, and the ability for the overhanging cloud and ban to derail the quiet confidence we were all getting this summer.

What happens if we self-impose a postseason ban? Do Lee and Lewis check out or pout because they came here for EXACTLY that opportunity?
Do guys attempt to undermine Pitino's authority in a potential lame-duck coaching position?
How focused will Pitino and his staff be on putting together a quality product? Drama has not been kind to our performance when it has bubbled up in the past.

This season will still be fascinating, but it may be more for the wrong reasons than the feel-good stories.

RE: Preseason News thread
Excuse my reductionistic take, but hypothetically, if you could choose between A) Pitino stepping down and losing a couple scholarships or B) self-administering an NCAAT ban for 2015-16, which side you on?

I'm on A, even though it obviously hurts the program more and B might be the "smart" move, especially if they pull a Syracuse and wait until we're on the outskirts of the tourney bubble to take the high road.

Yeah, I think fans most would choose B. I got the letters mixed up; I meant to choose A.

I would just feel really shitty about the transfers losing their last year. I wonder if they'd be able to sit out now and transfer without sitting 2016-17? If we're not competing for the tournament, might as well let them have a chance at chasing that dream. That wouldn't be as terrible, but they'd still be wasting this season. Probably not allowable anyways.

LOL, didn't mean to imply that. But I agree most fans would side with what's better for the program than what's best for a handful of players. Hashtag sports.

I really like what SI is doing with these projections, but I guarantee us 16 could come up with better collective list of the ACC players. Obviously I'm high on Eli Carter or I wouldn't have taken him 3rd round, but I doubt he's going to outscore Damion Lee. I think Lee is in line for 16+ per game. They're selling Seth Allen really short too. I'll be really surprised if Trey Lewis averages more than 10. I just haven't been impressed with him.

Yep, yep, and yep. Not saying Maia is going to set the world on fire, but there's plenty to criticize in this list.

More importantly if Terry Rozier is proven to have done what was charged against him do I get my CEBE banner stripped?

Boeheim on his guards.

"Gbinije and Cooney -- I'd be shocked if they don't average between 15 and 20 points a game. Both guys are capable of that. Gbinije is an NBA player -- he's really good. He can shoot. He's strong. He puts it on the floor and he's really gotten better. It's been a process. He had 21 against Duke in the first half last year -- he's got that kind of ability."

Read that when I was doing scouting. Tons of guys were saying that they think he's better than Johnson. Just didn't have the minutes last year. I hope I'm in for a pleasant surprise with him.

Is it just me or is this season crawling to the start line? Maybe it's the combo of scandal and bad football, but CEBE time can't get here fast enough

We only started the draft 5 days sooner than last year, so I'm not sure that's the issue for me. I'm just ready for something positive to happpen with respect to college sports. Even if UofL basketball is just as mediocre as our football team, there's always hope that the FreeBallers will carry some excitement through the season.
