RE: Tidbits
Don't give a shit about affairs, to clarify, that's between a person and their spouse. To reduce what he did at Arkansas to just an affair is whitewashing the hiring fraud that took place at a public institution and the overt cover-up and lying that is directly his doing. I can't be the only one here that sees it this way can I?

Not saying Jurich is a fool, just saying this is what you attach to yourself when you hire someone 2 years removed from a legit impropriety, not some damn cookout or $500 handshake with a recruit. I'm guessing most university employees would be blackballed from their field, at least for awhile if found doing what he did.

He did some dirt and crossed some lines that most people aren't comfortable with.
I'm sure that has nothing to do with the Texas/Arkansas football rivalry?

One of them is a Texas fan so maybe? They didn't really mention anything like that though, just the giant asshole and hiring his mistress stuff.

RE: Tidbits
Hiring fraud, really? You can go into any profession, anywhere, and find "hiring fraud". I'm not saying it's a good thing, but that it's kinda weird for that to be an issue with someone as traveled as you hothot.
My boss's boss is the unqualified brother of a longtime company employee, for example. He gets our (shitty)lumber from a buddy of his. The worst worker in our shop is the son of the foreman. Should have been fired long ago.

And lying about it? Not an honorable thing to do but it's not surprising or even rare. If I feared losing a multi-million dollar job and my wife and kids, I may have lied too. Remember when Saban said "I will not be the head coach of the University of Alabama"? I wonder what the AD at Bama thought about that. Probably laughed.

I contend that the ONLY reason he was fired was because he's a public celebrity. I seriously doubt that any university professor or department head, chancellor or whatever would be even fired, let alone blackballed, for cheating on their wife and hiring their mistress, errr TA. Maybe if the wife threatened lawsuit or blackmail, but those guys hire anybody they want and a lot of university bigwigs all over the country probably gulped real hard when the Petrino scandal made the news.

3* DE GG Robinson announced tonight he's all in with the Cards tonight. Chose us over UF. Looking like a Top 30 class. Maybe as high as 25-26. Pulled an offer from RB commit Matt Colburn, asked him to greyshirt. Hate it but the kids can walk up to the last second also.

REALLY hate that they pulled Colburn's scholly. Good talented kid that the staff seemed to like. And he was all in L1C4. I understand its part of the game but it's no better than a kid committing and then flipping. Robinson is a huge get though. There are some other questionable guys if rather see go.

No, we have one spot open and a couple of names being thrown around for a DB spot. I'm guessing we sit tight and see what shakes out over the next several days. 5 of the top 11 ranked teams (recruiting) have more than 25 commits and some will be asked to greyshirt and there might be an odd kid or two to flip.

RE: Tidbits
To put things in perspective. We signed the #2 dual purpose QB in the nation, UF was after him hotly. We got a lot of high 3* guys, guys that were within 100ths of being a 4*. The most telling factor is that today we beat out Au, FSU, UF, Bama, Miss St and VaTech for players that they had firm offers out there for. The only position not fully addressed is dbs and I would suspect that a couple of wrs will switch over the summer.

UK has an abysmal class. Rated decently between 35-40 but only because of 3 4*s. They inked 5 players that collectively had 4 offers from Power 5 schools, one player had 2 UConn and NCSt, 2 players with no Power 5 offers and 1 with and offer from Kansas. The only player on our offer list was the kid we pulled the offer from and asked to greyshirt.

I'll close with a cute little story from big sis. A few days ago UK got a visit from Therell Ghosier, when he left he announced that he was down to UK, UL and WVU. Funny thing is we had no contact and no offer out to him and WVU had quit recruiting him months ago.

Great to hear UofL has landed a solid class.

Related fact: only 8 of the 44 Super Bowl starters were 4* recruits. The other 36 were 3* or lower.

i think it just speaks to the development of players as they grow into their body. Recruit rankings don't seem to indicate much by the time these guys are juniors and seniors

I wonder if it also speaks to the differences in the college game and the pro game. Recruiting rankings are based on how well they project for college success. That translates for some but not others. Michael Sam stands out as an example of someone who was good enough to be the SEC defensive player of the year. Say what you will but the guy was a damn good college player. But, he was not a fit for the pro game.

No issue with his infidelity--that's between a person and their spouse. But yes, what he did at Arkansas is worse than boosters giving players money. Now, if it's a coach sending envelopes of cash, promising kids a signing bonus or directly doing that kind of dirt, that's different. But even then, it's a matter of a private citizen's money being given to poor kids who make hundreds of thousands of dollars for their schools versus a highly-paid celebrity employee committing hiring fraud at a public institution with his mistress and then lying about it. Most (all?) big football programs have boosters who give kids $100 handshakes to pay parking tickets or buy a suit. Not many coaches hire their mistress and lie about it.

I'm not saying Louisville was in error in hiring him or that he should never coach again, my main point was that Louisville made themselves a target for scrutiny when they did hire him so soon after his indiscretions--and rightfully so. Anybody who works in the business of page views or ratings will highlight any negative story concerning Petrino, as we are seeing with this gray shirt stuff.

And fwiw, I think Petrino's recent gray shirt issue has been blown out of proportion--though the gray shirt issue itself is really shitty and deserves negative attention--but this is exactly the kind of thing Louisville attached itself to when it hired him.

I definitely agree with that.

But like certain larger-than-life fanbases, you're saying it's ok to pay players presumably only because "everybody does it." What if everybody doesn't do it?

You're so certain that every coach is paying their players(either directly or indirectly) but you're also certain that only Bobby Petrino has hired a mistress and lied about it. No other coach or university employee has done or could do such a thing.

Poor, poor kids should get paid whether it's 'legal' or not. But poor, poor Bobby isn't allowed to get laid? Big Grin

No, not necessarily, but only Bobby has gotten caught red-handed (red-faced?). Yes, almost every big program has boosters that give "illegal" benefits to players. Sometimes it's paying off loans after a certain period of time, car deals, jobs for moms, etc...not always $100 handshakes. It's a gray area and I used to think it was so awful but have had trouble giving a shit recently. If you get caught, you're probably reckless and deserve the punishment.

Bruce Pearl isn't the only basketball coach to recruit outside the dead period and Kelvin Sampson isn't the only one who texted/called recruits too much but they got caught, (and Pearl lied about it to the ncaa) so they both had to serve time, so to speak. Most people feel the same way about Petrino's indiscretions and so he's going to be under additional scrutiny because that's how this works.

I hate to break it to the Timberwolves, but Terry won't make it back to them. He won't get much regular season draft hype because he's playing shooting guard for UofL. Once draft camps start and he's able to show his ability as a future PG, his stock is going to skyrocket.
