I used to rely on freshmen and juco transfers for my teams but quickly learned not all of them pan out...Rakeem Christmas was on my team 4 years ago and Chris McCullough seems eerily similar. Based on last years stats alone, the top three teams in the draft so far are:

1.) Wheats
2.) Empire
3.) Cassell/HotHot

You also have to remember this is the acc, not the big east/aac. Parker, Hood, Ennis, Perrantes, Devin wilson, and Kennedy Meeks were all freshman/transfers last year and put up some pretty good numbers. Senior laden teams are not that common, and freshman that do play are usually a first round pick in the nba when they decide to go pro. Yes it is a huge risk but it can also pay off in a huge way, especially for these teams that have little or no real star player in the team.

I like Quinn Cook as a player but I don't know how to feel about him on a team that has Okafor, Jones, Suliamon

It probably depends on which Suliamon shows up this year. Cook may have a large role, or a very small one.

RE: Draft Comment Thread
I'm reading the Duke boards and they all seem to think Quinn is going to get a lot of PT and have his opportunities to be the man keeping teams honest in how they defend Okafor. If the goal is to crowd the lane and double or triple team Okafor, Quinn is supposed to be the shooter this year that stretches defenses.

It's a bit of a gamble, but the articles and message boards I'm reading are counting on Cook.

Yeah, not sure if that means Suliamon is just not good or if Cook improved because a Tyus Jones, and Quinn Cook backcourt is going to be absolutely garbage on defense.

So how long have you been using Free Throw percentage? It looks like it is a killer stat category once you go below water.

RE: Draft Comment Thread
We started using FT% in Season 2. Before that there were only 4 categories so it helped alleviate so many ties.
And up until Season 5 we used Steals instead of Defense. The numbers purely from Steals were just too low to provide much variance so we threw Blocks in as well to make it a total Defense category.

I love FT%. Some like it and some don't, but I it's a critical part of basketball so I think it should have a role in the CEBE.
The beautiful(or terrible depending on which side you're on) thing about it is that you can have a team with a .750 average and you get to the title game and they shoot a combined .500. Just like real life, there's a certain unknowable component to it.

Of course you've got to factor in expected Free Throw Attempts per player. A guy you like may shoot 40% but if he only shoots 2 free throws a game it may not hurt you too much. Especially if you've got a guy that goes to the line 10 times a night and hits them at a 80% clip. They will combine for around 17-24 in a given week, for around .733, which is pretty good.

haha, thought about waiting on him, but eff it, I need forwards. If he's any good at all, he should play a lot. Tech is kinda unpredictable with all the changes, though.

Tech is unpredictable, but Shane is a Buzz recruit. Most of the talk has been whether he will favor his recruits at the expense of some of the prior Coach's recruits. That is likely why we saw so much attrition. I had hoped to pick up Shane as a last round unknown.

Which brings up a question. I understand that waivers run weekly. Do they run weekly between the end of the draft and the start of the season? Lots of starting lineups have yet to be worked out and I could envision some add/drops.

Yeah, I was banking on Buzz favoring him for being "his" guy and a JUCO guy which is where Buzz started. His run of turning JUCO guys into stars at Marquette was noted.

Yeah but that was with 10 teams. Though I think we only picked 9 players per.

But I'm afraid that EL is going to single-handedly add another 7 or 8 days to this.

Well not like most of the guys after round 9 matter anyways. Probably only one guy after then will actually contribute something meaningful.

They will this year, no doubt about it. They're going to be luckier picks before we know more, but with only 80 players drafted out of a 15-team ACC(roughly 8 good contributors per team = 120 or so viable players) we're going to see a lot of good players and hidden gems pop up in the early weeks of the season.
In fact, there are 75 possible starters in the ACC this year so unless we're really on point with our drafts we're not even going to have all real life starters drafted, and a few of these undrafted starters or bench players are going to sneak up and average great numbers.

Waivers will be VERY important this year, at least in the first few weeks.
