Poll: Should we only count the actual votes in the trade or thread or count non-votes as yes as well?

(S7)Trade voting process
This is the rule as it stands now.

All trades require NEW RULE* 51% league approval to be completed. However, all non-votes are counted as yes-votes meaning that participation is only required if you intend to vote against a trade.

This is better than than the few votes it took to pass a trade last year, no doubt. However, I don't think those that abstain from voting should be counted at all. So my proposal is that the only votes that should count are the ones logged in the trade proposal thread.

Please vote in the poll.

Harvey, It's 5-1 my friend. Let's get this change in the books. You're the only one that thinks non-votes should count as a yes. If only you'd let me put the draft to vote...

RE: Trade voting process
I don't think there has been a trade in the last 4 years that has had more "yes" votes than "no" votes. We're basically voting to eliminate trades. Did I miss something?

RE: Trade voting process
Wait, what? Pretty much every trade has had more yes than no. The issue is that 60% or more of the league doesn't bother voting, in turn being claimed as more yes votes.

That's exactly right. Most of the people that comment are voting "no" (probably 90% of the time). You will never have more people log in to vote "yes" than you will to vote "no". The only reason any trade ever passed was because the non-votes counted as "yes". Take that away, and increase the league approval to 51%, and trades will not go through. Just food for thought.

Maybe that's OK. I think it would have helped you avoid the Elba Island exile.

Probably not, but I'm not going to rehash it. Hopefully no one else does either.

I just want to give my $.02 on DHC's topic since I was late to the thread. I'm cool with deferring to the rest of you guys, but want to make sure it's clear what is being proposed. The rule as proposed would indirectly eliminate trades.

RE: Trade voting process
But you can't take into account the amount of people that didn't vote because their silence was a yes. Some people just didn't bother. Even at 51% with a 12 man league you would have to have 7 no votes show up to beat out the silence of non-voters. The threads are open what 24 hours? It should be just as easy to get a vote shot down as it is to get one approved. With non-votes counting as yes, you'd damn well have to text, pm, fb message all of your buddies to get in and vote to shut a trade down.

RE: Trade voting process
The major problem:

Trade is proposed. Two traders vote yes. 5 others show up to vote and vote no. Trade still passes because of your members that chose not to vote or don't come around a couple time a day. That's the problem. And 7 would be pretty high for votes on a trade. So everyone that looked at that thread was against it except for the traders and it still passed. Shouldn't happen.

RE: Trade voting process
The votes have spoken, so I'm just gonna make it so trades only need 51% of all votes to be passed. Non-votes count as abstention.

In other words,
If 9 people vote, 5 yes votes are needed for the trade to pass.
If 8 people vote, 5 yes votes are needed.
If 7 people vote, 4 yes votes are needed.
If 6 people vote, 4 yes votes are needed.
If 5 people vote, 3 yes votes are needed.
If 4 people vote, 3 yes votes are needed.

The two trade partners will always* vote yes so there are always* 2 guaranteed yes votes. Which means,
If 3 people vote, the trade passes.
If 2 people vote, the trade passes.
And the other scenarios aren't so daunting as they might appear.

I doubt everyone is going to 'nay' vote every trade that doesn't involve themselves. But we'll see.
If it doesn't work out we change it next year. Smile

*Except for that one time with DHC
