http://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/blogp...c&id=97388 Poor fucking SEC.

I have an idea. Sec champion gets a bye to the title game and the runner up gets into the 4 team playoff to see who gets to play the sec champ for the title.

They're trying to build their cases already for the SEC losing its power. They're beating up on each other. What about the fact that they HAVE TO EARN it now? How many champions have we crowned that weren't the best team?

So I guess they lost to Ohio state because they got beat up in the sec? But I thought the sec could roll any team in the country that wasn't in the sec because they're so tough.

Can see a parent being upset if their kid has to ride a 40 minute bus to Meyzeek for 2 years or whatever, but I think the potential benefits are obvi worth it. My grandmother was prez of the KEA & JCTA three decades ago, some wild stuff back then with teacher strikes, integration and busing.

So 12 of 17 prospects who stayed with UofL went to the NFL. Getting 50% of a not-Top25 class in the NFL is just incredible. They talk about Strong's eye for talent, but don't mention his (and Petrino's) ability to develop players.

Really is an incredible number. Also, the class was comprised of mostly 3* players. This isn't like Bama or Oregon where they would have had 4-5*, 7-4*, 6-3* recruits. The actual number is in the article but I think it was like 3-4* and the rest 3*'s or something like that.

Harv regurgitation #301: College football is a coach's game, you don't need studs to win big like in college hoops, you just need people who can get the most out of players and scheme against opposition.

Good read btw. If you scroll down you'll see a list of the best ACC spring performers that has a little write-up on Bonnafon...http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/_...rformances
I hope they're right.

Quote:Reggie Bonnafon (QB, Louisville)

Thrust into the starting lineup in midseason last year, Bonnafon struggled as a passer. Now with some experience under his belt, he looks far more comfortable in the pocket. His footwork and timing have improved, he has gotten better at reading defenses, and he has shown more of a willingness to attack down the field. Match those skills with ample athleticism and Bonnafon could be Bobby Petrino’s most versatile QB in years. There’s no set starter for Louisville yet, but when spring wrapped up, it certainly appeared that Bonnafon was ahead of the pack.

I agree, but you still need studs if you want to beat teams that have studs AND great coaches. I doubt Louisville stomps Florida in the Sugar Bowl if Meyer was on the sidelines.

Yes I would call that a good read. There is some evidence that it is money well spent. Just as upgraded facilities while oftentimes unnecessary attract students and contribute to the overall impression of a university.

A marketing major complaining about being scammed? That's rich.

It is indeed terrible though. Just another corrupt, dying institution, or institution(s) I guess.(college and college sports) And just another way college students get scammed. You're forced to buy new books(can't be used) for a lot of classes, then those $150 books don't get opened, you have to buy corporate meal plans, and outrageous parking fees etcetera.

I can only guess where all the other hidden fees go, but presumably a lot of them go to places that don't enhance the school's visibility and campus experience like college sports do.

So Louisville students have the 2nd highest cost of education of any of the power 5 schools? That can't be right

I'm guessing the cost of tutors, those immaculate study halls, and all the academic support our athletes receive is a big part of that.

RE: Good reads
Am I wrong in reading that the numbers are what the school is paying per student? Academic spending, i.e. the price to educate each student? If it were the other way around wouldn't it just be called tuition?

Those aren't all of the Power Five schools also. There are actually several non-Power Five schools on there. Who would have guessed that the University of Memphis was a football power?

You may be right, Harv. I'm wondering how to interpret those numbers. There was no explanation in the article.

I didn't get through the whole article but I'd guess that the problem is that threes are worth more than twos, and bigs that can't regularly hit free throws will never give you three.
Great shooting beats any other offensive style, imo. Not only are you making buckets but you're also spacing the floor for even easier, closer buckets.

Cliff notes
-Opportunistic post game is what makes the Warriors offense so good
-It's rare that kids come out of high school with any polish in the post
-Zone and help defense is what has killed the post game in the NBA
-Stretch 4's are dying and you need to have playmaking 4's who can drive the lane and switch on screens
-Post game will make a resurgence because teams are always switching the pick and roll to defend shooters, which will leave mismatches for the big men in the paint. All bigs need to be able to take advantage of that P&R switch with a back to the basket game
