The other draft thread is for picks only, this is where you can talk about the picks.

Nah, I'm still debating my first pick. Gonna sleep on it and pick in the morning. I'm pretty sure Nick has no idea the draft is even starting tomorrow, anyway.

For many reasons, I hope my first round selection doesn't result in Gorgui swinging on some dude from one of those Billy Minardi teams during the OOC schedule.

Also, good luck to the rest of the league finding a center. Pretty much a requisite with the new rules and no way one was coming back to me at pick 20.

Biggest question for Council: can his body handle another season of playing 90% of his team's minutes? Could see some of his stats dip if a certain recruit returns earlier than expected.

That and Council's FT% were what sealed it for me.

Consistency is arguably the best part of Council's upside when compared to the other Top 8 or so guys. He only missed more than 3 FTs in a game one time last season, I believe.

If you're consistently a sub-70% FT-shooting guard, is that a good thing?

It was a coin flip despite that, mind you. The relative depth at G was another tie-breaker that led me away from Council. But he and Gorgui are the only two players who can account for 40% of the necessary "points" in any given category (Council and assists, Gorgui and defense).

RE: Draft Comment Thread
True, Council's overall FT% did take a dip last season, but during conference play (CEBE playoffs) it actually improved from previous seasons. His decreasing FT Rate in conference play from year-to-year is interesting.

Vincent Council's stats in conference games only:
YEAR MPG - FT% -- FT RATE
2010 -- 27.6 - 68.9% - 54.8% (All games 53.7%)
2011 -- 36.2 - 67.1% - 32.5% (All games: 39.1%)
2012 -- 38.7 - 74.0% - 30.4% (All games: 29.9%)

Also of note, his mpg & assists increase during conference play while his rebounds, points & steals (very) slightly decrease in Big East play.

Well I think we can all agree that he can't possibly increase his minutes this year. Unless Providence plans on playing a bunch of OT games this season, the guy's maxed out his ability to increase stats through increased run.

Agree. For returning players, the top two picks should stand out this season for their value over the next player at same position, but while I think Council's FT% will improve this year, I see a little bit of risk with the minutes he keeps logging.

The counterargument would say Council's proven he can handle 93% of his team's minutes played--and there's two seasons of sample size available--but I digress. Similar to Alex Oriakhi's regression last year, more of a hunch than anything else.

Question on the roster. Can we make Providence forward Brice Kofane Center eligible? He's only an inch shorter than Batts/Golsborough at 6'8". With Providence likely starting the year with just 7 healthy/eligible scholarship players, he's highly likely to play at the 5 along with Goldy & Batts.

With the 4th pick in the draft, Needabuzz selects ... LOGAN BAUMANN out of UofL!

where did that guy come from? I might try to dress for the next scrimmage and see if I can get some clock

Siva is a potential All American. He's solid at any spot in the draft, especially if he hits free throws like UofL needs him to

I was honestly hoping he'd somehow make it back to the doms. lol. I'm curious to see how many people are going to over/under value UL players because of hype and potential. IE: Wayne and Kevin.

The quality of that pick will depend entirely on which Siva shows up. If he puts together a full season of the stat-stuffing play we've seen in spurts, brilliant pick. If he's still the hyper-active, pick-up-three-fouls-in-7-minutes PG we've seen in the past, ehhh...

Decided to go with the big man. I was surprised to see EL was spot on with the lack of proven quality big men in the league. It was tough though, there are some better picks but now I don't have gamble for a Center

Not just that but with all the depth and potential blowouts how many minutes will the Card players be getting?

I don't have Siva in my Top 8, and I probably have him a lot lower than I should, but I do think his stats will be more consistently reliable during Big East play, which is important in this league. Biggest worry would be fouls, but it's amazing as much talent as Louisville has, there's still no clear backup PG, IMO. Russ will be a bandaid and who knows if Luke's actually in the discussion or if Rick's trolling us. Luke's a good distributor but breaking presses & learning 3 or 4 different positions in the matchup zone? I dunno.

He and Gorgui are the only two guys who I think can be guaranteed pretty consistent minutes (foul troubles notwithstanding). We have a TON of depth at the 2, 3, and 4 spots, but remain thin at PG and C.
