Just saw the roster, thanks for attaching the spreadsheet. Not sure why, but this didn't show up as a new or unread post for me.

RE: 2012-13 CEBE Roster
Question on the roster. Can we make Providence forward Brice Kofane Center eligible? He's only an inch shorter than Batts/Golsborough at 6'8". With Providence likely starting the year with just 7 healthy/eligible scholarship players, he's highly likely to play at the 5 along with Goldy & Batts.

Seems to me like if we are going to make Kofane a F/C, we're going to have to do the same for ALL guys who are 6'8". Suddenly guys like Justin Jackson, CJ Fair, and Otto Porter are centers. And frankly, if that were the case that would have very much changed my pick.

Let's leave Kofane as a Forward only. Chris made his pick based on the lack of depth at Center.

RE: 2012-13 CEBE Roster
Ok, that's fair, thanks for the quick ruling.

One more roster inquiry: Forward Mikael Hopkins started practice as a Center at Georgetown. He's 6'9" and was subbed in for Sims at the 5 last season. Don't think he's first round material but I think his case is much stronger than Kofane's.

Hopefully it's ok to ask roster questions still, just noticed this info while doing prep for the draft, I'm not looking to gain an advantage just an open discussion.

Also, what are the rules for in-season position changes? If Starting Center X goes down and a Forward clearly takes his starting position at the 5, would that Forward ever be changed to F/C? Just clarifying not trying to be that guy.

fair question. With some teams, like Notre Dame, I had to add center elligibility because guys like Jack Cooley weren't listed as a Center. With GU, they actually designated 4 players as Centers and Hopkins wasn't one of them. I'd rather leave Hopkins as a foward only, to stay consistent with GU's generous roster positions.

From what I remember, position changes after the draft are not allowed, regardless of where they play after the season starts. On my college fantasy football team, I have Venric Mark as a WR even though he plays RB for Northwestern. He switched positions in the offseason, but they can't go back and change his position midseason after I picked him up as WR.

RE: 2012-13 CEBE Roster
The one exception to J-Rye's rule is if the university or ESPN changes their roster position to the advantage of the owner who has the player. For example, if Peyton Siva were switched from G to G/F, then the guy who drafted him could start playing Siva as a F. However, if Gorgui was suddenly reclassified from C to F on UofL's roster, we wouldn't force Gorgui's owner to stop using him at the C spot.

I'd say that rule is up for debate. Personally, I don't like the idea of changing positions after the draft, because it's a source of controversy in the league. It's not right for someone to gain an advantage because they got lucky and drafted a player who's position later changed. That's my $.02

I'll go back to that example from the football league I'm in. CBSsports doesn't change Venric Mark to a "RB/WR" just because he gets all of his touches out of the backfield.

RE: 2012-13 CEBE Roster
Alright, thanks gents. Assumed that was the rule on in-season changes, but wanted to make sure it hadn't changed from when I last recalled us having the discussion.

It's a shame Georgetown has Hopkins listed as a Forward and four bench-riders as Centers.

RE: 2012-13 CEBE Roster
I've played in Yahoo! fantasy leagues that require a minimum games played at X position requirement to enact a new position eligibility. I don't see a problem with a manager drafting a player based on the possibility of a position change, but there should be an agreed-upon process. I guess now the process is up to J-Rye's discretion, which is fine, but if he has reservations it's probably worth discussing now before the draft is done.

Would a vote work? Would be interesting. Could instill a deadline, like trades. Just tossing out ideas.

RE: 2012-13 CEBE Roster
Unless someone is proposing some sabremetrics type analysis of players' time and position on the court, I have no idea how that would work. I try to watch a good bit of Big East hoops and there's no way I see enough to know who played what position in what game.

Also, wouldn't time spent at position X have resulted in Swop getting a C tag last year? Just sayin. Does Ryan Boatright earn forward status this season just because UConn has to go 3-guard lineup? Who was the forward in the Ray/Nardi/Foye trio at Nova a couple years back?

In short, I think we had this debate last year regarding position eligibility. A lot of Big East teams employ a lot of lineups that don't necessarily follow 2G-2F-C. Some go 3 G's, some go 3 F's... that doesn't mean that the 2nd off-ball perimeter player should be given SF status or that the front line player in the middle of Cuse's 2-3 zone is automatically a center.

If we do allow position changes, it should come from the official athletic site for that university. Using ESPN, CBS, NBC, Sports Illustrated, etc is just going to muck things up. Harv, what's the official ruling ... or do you want to put it to a vote? I just don't want to get into another argument like we did last year after the draft was over.

I'd have to go with no changes after the draft. That's IMO.

Good points on the sabermetrics stuff. Baseball has set positions, college basketball not so much. All the prior discussions on this issue that I read but didn't participate in are flooding back now, haha.

I think the lesson learned here is that if you draft Mikael Hopkins, it's in your best interest to email their SID daily to change his position to Center.

LOL! I would literally hand an opponent a matchup with me if they could lobby a Big East SID to re-categorize one of their players into a new position.

(OK, not really, but I would send you one American, virtual high five)

Tempted to draft him now solely to see if I can convince an SID to change his position.
